Paul Lewis & Mozart 25 / Franck Symphony in D
Mozart's 25th Piano Concerto is considered to be his greatest, most difficult and most symphonic piano concerto. It reminded fervent admirer Olivier Messiaen of “sublime religious architecture; Egyptian sphinxes, Mexican step-pyramids and Gothic cathedrals.” Paul Lewis, a British pianist is regarded as one of the most subtle and intelligent pianists in the world, brings these buildings to life with absolute brilliance. His cycles based on Beethoven and Schubert have established his reputation as a specialist in the central European classical repertoire. The composer César Franck is being celebrated in 2022, as he was born in Liège in Belgium exactly 200 years ago this year, before later becoming a naturalised Frenchman. His Symphony in D minor, in three movements and composed a few years before his death, is his best known and most frequently performed work.
