‘BAROZZI VEIGA’

The Barozzi Veiga practice in Barcelona, devoted to architecture and urbanism, was founded in 2004 by Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga.

Context is particularly important in the work of these two architects.  They seek to find a balance between the particularities of the context, its authenticity, and the formal autonomy of the architecture they create. This formal autonomy subsequently allows their architecture to transcend the temporal context from which it emerges.  The clearly defined volumes and affirmed geometries lend the architecture a strong identity that both adheres to and deliberately stands  in relief against its context. 

Public buildings make up the greater part of the Barozzi Veiga portfolio, the most well-known being  the Graubünden Museum of Fine Arts in Switzerland and the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall in Poland, the latter winning the famous Mies van der Rohe prize in 2015. Barozzi Veiga was invited to the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016 and to the Chicago Architecture Biennale the following year.
