Bach Heritage

Although more than two centuries separated Bach from the English composer Benjamin Britten, the cello suite represents a bond between them. Conceived by the German master, the genre would sound the death knell of the bass viol (viola da gamba), which lost out to the expressive possibilities of the cello. Britten, a great lover of the cello, wrote his Suites for his friend the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Renowned for his creative interpretations, the German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott makes the connection between these two masters in an evening of beautiful and intense music.
