On 29 and 30 September, 1941, two Nazi German army battalions, assisted by members of the Ukrainian Auxiliary Police, and without any resistance from the local population, shot dead 33,771 Jews in the Babi Yar ravine near Kyiv. The film reconstructs the historical context of this tragedy through previously unseen archive footage. When memory turns into oblivion, when the past overshadows the future, it is the voice of cinema that articulates the truth.
The film won the Special Jury Prize, L’Oeil d’Or for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival 2021.
