‘Armenia 2015, and then?’

18 Dec.'15
- 18:00

Screening and debate

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and following on from the first Focus on Caucasus (February 2014), BOZAR AGORA is turning its attention to Armenian identity and culture, along with its relations with its Middle Eastern neighbours

18:00 : Screening of the documentary Ici-Bas (Belgium/France – 2010) attended by the director, Comes Chahbazian.

With Ici-Bas, Comes Chahbazian draws an original portrait of Erevan. He approaches the identity of the Armenian capital through seemingly unconnected clips that piece together the city via a series of images set in a significant place and time, where the past seems to crush a suffering yet emerging future. After producing Untitled and Y.U.L., two short fiction films, Comes Chahbazian filmed Ici‐Bas in 2006, a documentary film screened at a number of festivals. Rhythm & Intervals, his latest film, is due to be released at the start of 2016. He lives and works in Brussels.

19:00 : Discussion with the director, Comes Chahbazian, the artist, Mekhitar Garabedian (Golden Lion at the 56th Venice Biennale) and Bernard Coulie (Professor of Armenian and Georgian literature and languages, Byzantine studies and European culture and identity at the UCL).
