Bozar Next Generation

While the Polish quartet Apollon Musagète was only recently formed, it has already won a string of awards. Nominated as a 2010 ECHO Rising Star, the ensemble went on to win the 2012 BBC New Generation Artist, followed by the 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. Since then the quartet has treat the boards of many leading international concert halls. During this concert, they will demonstrate the extent of their talent with a bold programme. They will kick off with a tribute to the iconic Polish Renaissance composer, Waclaw de Szamotuly, followed by Mozart’s famous Dissonance quartet, before tackling a monument from twentieth-century music, Karol Szymanowski, whose music is representative of modernist Poland during the inter-war period. His String Quartet No. 1, which follows the traditional sonata cycle, won the first prize in the chamber music competition of the Polish Ministry for Culture in 1922.
