Rachmaninov piano concerto nr. 4

The conductor Nicholas Collon takes on the United States. Starting with Copland’s breakthrough ballet 'Appalachian Spring', about the simple existence of a young couple of pioneers in Pennsylvania. He then moves on to New York with Rachmaninoff’s music. The late romantic composer fled Russia following the October Revolution, developing his own personal style in his second home country, America. Boris Giltburg, a laureate of the 2013 Queen Elisabeth Competition, performs the Piano Concert No. 4, treating the audience to an unparalleled mix of modern and romantic elements. The concert ends with Dvořák’s magnificent Symphony No. 7, a quintessentially European masterpiece with combative feel that is reminiscent of Beethoven.
