BOZAR and ARDI (Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup at the European Parliament) together propose an evening of panel lectures & discussion with leading anti-racism advocates from the United Nations, the UK, Germany and Belgium. Outspoken Labour Member of Parliament David Lammy will address Brexit implications for the struggle against racism and discrimination in the UK. And Belgian political scientist Tracy Bibo-Tansia will address the Belgian context and respond to the recent UN observations on Belgium’s handling of colonial history and racism.
Special Guest, activist Paul Diwakar.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Belgian activist, author, politician & historian Omar Ba.
This event is organized in the context of the Anti-racism/discrimination days 17-20 March 2019 on the occasion of the International Day against Racism (22 March).
David Lammy (United Kingdom) has been the Labour Member of Parliament for his home constituency of Tottenham since 2000, and in the 2017 General Election was re-elected for the sixth time with 82% of the vote. He is one of Parliament's most prominent and successful campaigners for social justice.
Tracy Bibo-Tansia (Belgium) is a political scientist. She is an expert in equal opportunity, international politics, with a focus on the former Belgian Colonies.
Omar Ba is a historian, activist and consultant on diversity policies, inclusion and diasporic transnational networks. He is a well-known voice within Flanders on matters of multiculturalism and social inclusion. He also was for many years a key spokesperson for the African communities in Flanders and representative of the European Network Against Racism coordination Belgium.
Before the conference, all the registered participants are invited to attend the reception at 18.30, kindly offered by Open Society Foundation and ARDI.
