J.S. Bach, Weihnachtsoratorium

Sopraan Yetzabel Arias Fernandez is ill en is replaced by Martha Bosch.

Ton Koopman lives and breathes Bach. He knows every note of Bach’s work and like no other can convey his unique vision of the work of Thomaskantor to his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. It is rare for a conductor and ensemble to be so in tune with one another, as they are in this combination of musicians and singers. Bach performed the Weihnachtsoratorium in Leipzig on six different days. Here, the first four parts form a whole evening’s entertainment, starting with ceremonious kettle drummers and the triumphant flourish of trumpets in “Jauchzet, frohlocket, auf preiset die Tage”.
