‘Amazigh Spring: AmZik’

Bozar is proud to present a new edition of Amazigh Spring, a musical celebration dedicated to the culture and resilience of the first inhabitants of North Africa, the Imazighen or Amazigh. In spite of successive colonisations, increasing Arabisation and the policy of denial and marginalisation of their identity, Amazigh communities have continued to resist their disappearance. This evening is all about unity and a new beginning; the Amazigh New Year, or Yennayer (Arabic: ينّاير) is also the first month of the Amazigh calendar. What better way to celebrate than with music? 

Taking traditional music as their starting point and adding modern instruments (the mandolin, guitar, bass guitar, piano and percussion), the upcoming Franco-Kabyle group Amzik give the Kabyle blues a fresh, poetic new feel.
