Bozar is proud to present a new edition of Amazigh Spring, a musical celebration dedicated to the culture and resilience of the first inhabitants of North Africa, the Imazighen or Amazigh. In spite of successive colonisations, increasing Arabisation and the policy of denial and marginalisation of their identity, Amazigh communities have continued to resist their disappearance. This evening is all about unity and a new beginning; Amazigh Spring, or Yennayer (Arabic: ينّاير) is also the first month of the Amazigh calendar. What better way to celebrate than with music?
The first band of the evening is the upcoming Franco-Kabyle group Amzik. Taking traditional music as their starting point and adding modern instruments (the mandolin, guitar, bass guitar, piano and percussion), they give the Kabyle blues a fresh, poetic new feel. They are accompanied on stage by their special guest Tanina, the daughter of the Algerian singer Idir. Together, they pay tribute to the musician who died in 2020.
The second band will be announced soon.
