JEUNESSE ET ARTS PLASTIQUES - FILM
A film by Virpi Suutari,
Finland, 2020, 103 ’, OV stt French
Alvar Aalto, one of the great masters of European architecture and design, is considered the father of modernism. The Finn turned spaces and objects into works of art, such as the Viipuri Library and the Aalto Vase, which has become a design classic with its asymmetrical shapes. AALTO - the film - tells the story of Alvar Aalto, the visionary, and his wife Aino Aalto, who put into practice his modern wood-based architecture and unusual design concepts. This unconventional couple shared a passion for organic construction and human-oriented architecture. They developed democratic values to design a modern world in which the "simple man" should be at the heart. They took the idea of the Bauhaus and extended it to Northern Europe, while at the same time remodelling it in a spectacular way.
