Landscape architect Bas Smets set up his Brussels office in 2007. Since then, his office has brought together a team of 25 architects and landscape architects. Their completed projects include the Parc des Ateliers in Arles, the Tour & Taxis park in Brussels, the public space around Trinity Tower in Paris, and the Sunken Garden and Mandrake Hotel in London. In 2022, Bureau Bas Smets won the international competition to design the public space around Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
In early May 2025, the 19th Architecture Biennale will open its doors in Venice. Bas Smets and Stefano Mancuso will be presenting the Building Biospheres exhibition in the Belgian pavilion. It is in this context that A+ has invited Bas Smets to co-edit the issue A+312 Natural Intelligence. This A+312 presents the latest findings on plant intelligence and explores how natural growth processes can inspire the development of architecture and urban planning.
During the A+ Launch, Bas Mets will give a talk on his work. The new issue of A+312 Natural Intelligence will be on sale the evening after the event.
