‘4th Stream Festival - dedicated to the new wave of Jazz’

You may have already seen Matthias De Craene on stage playing saxophone in the funky rock band Nordmann. However, he's also carved out a solo career for himself under the name MDC, working on four separate projects: as a soloist, with another artist, with a trio and with a quartet. At 4th Stream, he will present MDC III, a line-up of three musicians. Be prepared, because this is not your traditional ensemble. De Craene has chosen to partner with two drummers!

For the Dutch artist Jameszoo, there can be no avant-garde jazz without electro. Together with his quintet, he produces the weirdest beats and sounds. Squeaks, creaks, you name it, you’ll hear it! Just listen to Fool, his debut album on Brainfeeder (Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Lapalux etc.), the label of that musical alchemist Flying Lotus.

James Brandon Lewis will also treat you to an extremely lively set, crafting a unique blend of Nineties hip hop with sounds from his gospel and blues background, together with his trio. The raw sound of guitarist Anthony Pirog - from rock to jazz, experimental, country, improvisation and beyond – is a perfect fit for Lewis’s ensemble.

Dinosaur’s music is the perfect end note for the first evening of 4th Stream. The band around award-winning British trumpet player Laura Jurd performs a “beautifully played and effortlessly confident collage of contemporary styles”, according to The Guardian.
