‘2005-2007. A Europe that is either too large or too small’

2019 marks the centenary of the Treaty of Versailles and is also a European election year. The outcome of these European elections remains uncertain. The coincidence (and co-incidence) of these two events is interesting however: are we seeing a return to nationalism, the exact same nationalism which led our continent into war? We have invited some of the greatest European specialists to formulate a response to this question and to discuss four major themes, that shaped the Europe we live in today.

Michel Foucher is the holder of the chair in Applied Geopolitics at the Collège d'études mondiales of the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme. A former diplomat, he served as France’s ambassador to Latvia (2002-2006) and Ambassador at Large for European affairs (2006-2007).
Andrea Pierucci worked for the European Commission for several years. From 2008 until 2010, he was employed as chef de cabinet of the President of the European Economic and Social Committee. He is a member of the “Centro di Studi sull’Europa Contemporanea” and lectures at “L’Orientale” University in Naples.
