‘1989-1992. The Berlin Wall: German unification and a single currency’

With Frédéric Bozo & Antonio Varsori

2019 marks the centenary of the Treaty of Versailles and is also a European election year. The outcome of these European elections remains uncertain. The coincidence (and co-incidence) of these two events is interesting however: are we seeing a return to nationalism, the exact same nationalism which led our continent into war? We have invited some of the greatest European specialists to formulate a response to this question and to discuss four major themes, that shaped the Europe we live in today.

Frédéric Bozo is a professor of contemporary history at the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle (Université Paris III, Institut d’études européennes). His research focuses on France’s foreign affairs and security policy and trans-Atlantic relations and the history of the Cold War.
Antonio Varsori is a professor in the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Padua, where he lectures on the history of international relations. He is the Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair on the history of European integration and an Associate Fellow of the Cold War Study Centre (London School of Economics).
