‘WOLFGANG WALKENSTEINER, ”Hier en Nu“’

HERE AND NOW is a creative work that appeals to the senses, one that is devoted to questions of an ontological nature and questions concerning the times in which we live. set against the background of one of the most massive movements of refugees that Europe has known, the project is a ontemplation of man in his state of helplessness. at the core of reflections that generated wolfgang walkensteiner’s paintings and bruno strobl’s music are man’s deterritorialization and his reterritorialization. A gestus that renounces all forms of naturalism relegates any concrete, visible reference to such a subject to the sole realm of poetry and manifests itself merely in the form of a monotonous refrain: “je suis réfugié”. therefore, the present project constitutes an effort at bringing a concern into current focus, a concern, however, that must be seen as timeless, in fact not current at all, in the sense that it should always be current.

both artists – who are both natives of carinthia – want to stress this point; and in presenting their visual and musical works, they hope to contribute to forming a vision of europe that corresponds to its diverse and boundless potential for working toward a planetarization. and, finally, both artists would like to dedicate this project to the dignity of all human beings – and to insist on the fact that this dignity is a possession that is under no circumstances negotiable.
