Films and Magic Lantern Performances by Charlotte Pryce

Pryce schept iets persoonlijks, iets kleins, alsof je het met de handen kan omsluiten. Zoiets heb ik in mijn hele leven nog niet gezien. [...] Haar kunst komt er op een moment waarop we ons allen afvragen welke richting de film op gaat. Ze kijkt tegelijkertijd rond zich heen, blikt acgterom en richt zich naar de toekomst. Net als de 19e-eeuwse toverlantaarn de voorbode was van de film, luidt het 21e-eeuwse werk van Pryce een nieuw, alternatief tijdperk in van de post-cinematografische film. Ze is uniek. Charlotte Pryce (°1961, VK) maakt al sinds 1986 experimentele films, foto’s en optische voorwerpen. Ze creëert bovendien werken voor toverlantaarns. Inmiddels ruilde ze Londen in voor de Verenigde Staten, waar ze haar masterdiploma behaalde en lesgaf in Chicago en San Francisco. Ze doceert momenteel Experimentele Film aan Calarts (California Institute of the Arts) in Los Angeles. Haar films waren al te zien op tal van festivals, onder meer in Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Toronto, San Francisco, New York, Hong Kong, Ann Arbor en Londen.
