With only a guitar as accompaniment and half an hour on the timer, we asked three singer-songwriters to voice the theme of love. The soulful Adja, crowd-pleasing Gabriel Rios and spiritual Muva of Earth replied a wholehearted yes.
Many of you have been patiently waiting for new music from Adja since 2023's ep Ironeye. And with good reason. Brussels-based Adja Fassa is a Sound Track laureate, signed to the label Sdban Ultra and does not fall short of the vocality of RAYE or Lianne La Havas. 2025 will be the birth year of her debut album, but until then, you'll have to settle for her elaborate live shows in which theatre and music hug each other intimately. To appeal to the subconscious, collective memory, even scents and evocative images are used. The spiritual path Adja takes as a person and artist becomes tangible in a total experience and resonates with all those present. Because everyone can relate to the naivety of falling in love. ‘But you'll make me cry. Even if it means I'll stab my own eye. ‘Cause I'm romantic, not blind,’ sings Adja in To be naive.
Like a chameleon, Gabriel Rios occasionally changes (sound) colours. Since his 2003 debut album Ghostboy, he went from eccentric Latin pop crooner to introspective singer-songwriter on 2014's This Marauder's Midnight. Meanwhile, he has chosen Spanish as his language and mixes nylon strumming with sensual strings and timeless tango. The album Flore was the first result of this shift of sound, featuring reinvented Latin classics and original songs. Rios' latest album Playa Negra (September 2024) takes the gothic Caribbean sound that characterised Flore one step further and features mostly his own songs in Spanish. For Bozar, he selects his best love songs. Or should we now say canciones de amor?
Davina Earth Adeosun-Bright, popularly known as the artist, muva of Earth takes her cues from innovative sound travellers like Bjork, Yves Tumor, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra. In a time where Earth and humanity are yearnig for love and total replenishment, muva of the Earth, returns with an empowering collection of affirmations and chants aligned with the intention to awaken and heal the heart-space. Their debute EP align with Nature’s intelligence pushes us to embrace the inner magic that arises when we express the unique parts of ourselves. These mantra-like songs demand tranquility. In her own words, the “meditative punk” combines a calming soundscape with a futuristic message. Compliment her vulnerability with your love at the Love is Louder Festival.
