Má Vlast, or My Fatherland, is an ode to Bedřich Smetana's Bohemian homeland in which the composer evokes the country’s breathtaking nature and rich history in warm romantic brush strokes. A rare opportunity to hear the complete cycle performed in full, when usually only the sweeping melodies of the second symphonic poem, Vltava (The Moldau) are performed on stage. On this occasion, living legend Daniel Barenboim is coming to Brussels with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Founded by Barenboim in 1999, the orchestra brings together Jewish and Arab musicians in an intercultural dialogue. Together they will be infusing the concert hall with an air that is unmistakably Czech.

Due to health reasons, Daniel Barenboim has to cancel his European tour with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. We wish him a good recovery. The maestro has decided to leave his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in the capable hands of his former assistant Thomas Guggeis. This young and very talented conductor has been Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin since the 20/21 season. He has also been appointed the next music director of the Frankfurt Opera. Thomas Guggeis has also appeared on the stages of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Semperoper Dresden and the Wiener Staatsoper.
