Ayant étudié dans son pays et à la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres, la chanteuse grecque Savina Yannatou se passionne pour le chant traditionnel et fonde, avec des musiciens de Salonique, le groupe Primavera  en Salonico. Ils ont enregistré ensemble 8 CD pour le label ECM et se sont produits aux quatre coins du monde. Savina Yannatou a également composé ses propres chansons et compte une discographie de 21 albums. Elle a notamment collaboré avec le bassiste Barry Guy, le percussionniste Baby Sommer ou l’ensemble canadien Constantinople, et travaille avec des orchestres réputés et des compositeurs grecs. Accompagnée d’un groupe de musiciens exceptionnels, elle interprète des chants traditionnels de Salonique, surnommée la Jérusalem des Balkans, siège de multiples communautés grecque, juive, turque, bulgare, serbe, arménienne ou pontique. Prenant d’anciennes chansons pour point de départ, ils restituent à travers un voyage musical itinérant l’esprit de chaque communauté, grâce aux arrangements exceptionnels de Kostas Vomvolos.
